ALUMINIUM
Aluminium or aluminum
is the chemical element in the periodic
table that has the symbol Al and atomic
number 13. It is a silvery and ductile
member of the poor metal group of chemical
elements. Aluminium is
found primarily as the ore bauxite and
is remarkable for its resistance to corrosion
(due to the phenomenon of passivation)
and its light weight. Aluminium
is used in many industries to make millions
of different products and is very important
to the world economy. Structural components
made from aluminium and
its alloys are vital to the aerospace
industry and very important in other areas
of transportation and building in which
light weight, durability, and strength
are needed.
AWNING
An awning is a secondary
covering attached to the exterior wall
of a building. It is typically composed
of canvas or acrylic
cloth that is stretched tightly over a
light structure of aluminum,
iron or steel, and possibly
wood. The configuration
of this structure is something
of a truss, space frame or planar frame.
The location of an awning
on a building is either above a window,
a door, or above the area along a sidewalk.
With the addition of columns an awning
is able to extend enough from a building
to line an entryway, as in the case of
an entrance to a hotel. Restaurants
often use awnings broad
enough to cover substantial outdoor area
for outdoor dining, parties, or reception.
In commercial buildings
such as these, an awning
is often painted with information as to
the name, business, and address, thus
acting as a sign or billboard in addition
to providing shade from
the sun, break from steep winds and dryness
from rain or snow.
Some aawnings have aluminium
or other materials instead of fabric.
These are more durable than fabric
and do not deterioate in rain
or tear under the weight of snow.
Although light colored awnings
may give a light, airy feel to the area,
they let more sunlight through than darker
shades. They are therefore they are less
economical.
CANOPY
Canopy is an overhead
roof or structure
that provides shade or shelter. A canopy
can also be a tent, generally
without floor.
A canopy is an architectural
projection that provides weather
protection, identity or decoration,
and is supported by the building to which
it is attached and a ground mounting,
by not less than two stanchions (upright
support posts). A canopy
is comprised of a structure
over which a fabric or
metal covering is attached.
Fabric canopies can meet
various design needs. Many modern fabrics
are long-lasting, bright, easily cleaned,
strong and flame-retardant. Modern frame
materials offer high strength-to-weight
ratios and corrosion resistance. The proper
combination of these properties can result
in safe, strong, economical and attractive
products.
DECK
In architecture, a deck
is a flat surface capable of supporting
weight, similar to a floor but typically
constructed outdoors and usually connected
to a building. The term is a generalization
of decks as found on
ships.
Wood or timber "decking" can
be used in a number of ways - as part
of garden landscaping, to extend living
areas of houses, and as an alternative
to stone based features such as patios.
PATIO
(From the Spanish: "Patio"=
Back Garden or Back Yard) A patio
garden is an outdoor garden space generally
used for dining or recreation that often
adjoins a residence and is typically paved.
Specifically, it may refer to a roofless
inner courtyard of the sort found in Spanish-style
dwellings.
RETRACTABLE
AWNING
Retractable Awnings are
now becoming very popular with property
owners. Retractable Awnings
can include the following types: Lateral
Arm Type Can shade a patio
on a hot day and be retracted manually
or with a motor to allow
the sun to shine when desired. Screens
to keep bugs out are now sometimes fitted.
Side Arm Type Commonly used to shade windows
Tension Shade Used to shade sunrooms.
ROOF
The roof, the top covering
of a building, is one of the universal
structures found on all buildings.
Its purpose is primarily to shed water
off the building and to prevent it from
accumulating on top. To achieve this goal,
Roofs may be highly pitched
(sloped) or low sloped in form. Low sloped
roofs are commonly found
on industrial/commercial type structures.
Pitched roofs are the
primary design found on residential homes.
TELESCOPIC
AWNING
Old-type telescopes were often made from
tube sections that slid inside each other
for easier stowage when not being used.
As a result, anything that can lengthen
and shorten in this way is said to be
telescopic (adjective),
and the process of shortening in this
way is called telescoping
VERANDAH
A verandah is a large
balcony on the level of a ground floor.
Veranda is a brand of
composite decking and railing which is
a wood-alternative offering the look of
wood without the drawbacks of corroding,
splintering, termite damage, or decay.
It is a composite material composed of
recycled wood and plastic. It is non-toxic
and environmentally friendly.
