On July 1st 2007
in New York City a new
law came into force, enacted to
regulate noise pollution and sound
emissions. A challenging task indeed
but necessary, considering the endless complaints
of the people about the "unlivability"
of the Big
Apple. Besides, the old noise code dates
back to 30 years ago and by this time it
was necessary to re-write its rules.
The new code states that all newly constructed
buildings must consider sound insulation
criteria and that all engineers
and builders will have to follow the guidelines.
Builders must also keep a document at the
construction site explaining the strategies
and procedures that have been adopted in
order to control and mitigate noise.
